International Wine Cellar«, gilt dort als der Spanien-Spezialist. Die sowohl in gedruckter Form wie auch im Internet verfügbare Publikation befasst sich mehr als alle anderen Mitstreiter regelmäßig mit dem Thema Wein aus Spanien und Portugal. In Ausgabe 125 - 3-4/2006 haben wir nachfolgende Verkostungsnotiz zum ›Batuta Tinto 2003‹ von
Niepoort gefunden. Der aus
D.O.C. Douro stammende Wein wurde mit 90+/100 Punkten bewertet, nachfolgend der Originaltext:
„Dark red color. Cherry and dark berry aromas along with strong oak notes of vanilla, cocoa and clove. Fat and rich on the palate but also powerfully structured, with solid tannins framing the flavors of cherry and plum preserves. Finishes sweet and spicy, with a suggestion of dryness. The oak in these young wines was fairly strong at the outset but settled down with aeration, allowing the concentrated fruit qualities to emerge.“
